another well produced reeko ep on planet rhythm. this is dark angry techno music that should be played only at loud volume. the title track >bad connection< is a raw nervous track on a somewhat slower pace that will definitely get people dancing. especially for all those raves that last until 7 in the morning this is one for the peak hours. >look at me< is a jumpy non 4/4 techno rhythm with cool effects and chords, the rising synth at the end of each loop is a nice look. >in a different world< and >restart< are both tracks that fit perfectly in this new prruk record. good producers know how to build an ep in a way that it feels like chronological soundtrack. reeko knows exactly how to do this.

the ghettoteknitianz are a formidable clique of footwork djs who count rashad and spinn (who have previously released eps on mu) among their members, as well as veterans such as traxman, gant-man and younger producers like dj manny and dj earl.

dj diamond is 24 year old karlis griffin from the west side of chicago. he has been producing music since the age of 13 and djing since 20, heading the flight muzik clique of footwork producers.
you might recall his two tracks from our >bangs & works vol.1< footwork compilation of last year. in addition he has also released several mix cds in chicago, but this, his first international album showcases his unique style of footwork music.

newly signed to planet mu, travis stewart aka machinedrum is known to the electronic music cognoscenti as one of the finest, yet inexplicably underexposed producers out there. after an extended ep last year on the luckyme label he is putting out this four tracker followed by an album with mu, and his new tracks and live performances are garnering some excited attention and new fans and supporters. the songs on this ep are light and sun-hued with psychedelic, colourful sounds and melodies. clocking in at around 160 bpm, they work within ands alongside the rhythmic conventions of footwork and jungle, with a hefty dose of uk-flavoured bassomatic house thrown in for good measure.

vezelay is 30 year old matthieu le berre who is from clermont-ferrand in france and this six track e.p. of short dreamlike electropop is his debut release.
the >lyre e.p.< simply and beautifully mixes stripped down simple pop structures with a dreamlike quality featuring matthieus soft falsetto singing. the feeling is quite lo-fi and hazy and with repeated listens reveals an austere depth and complexity.

nice price deal !!! nastynasty a.k.a. jasper reeder is a us bay area dubstep producer whose planet mu debut pits a slither of pitch-altered mournful vocal melody against a rough modulated bassline and 8 bit chimes, to catchy and memorable effect.

terror danjah is back on planet mu after last years >gremlinz< compilation reintroduced him to the world at large. since then, as well as planet mu, he has released a single on hyperdub, one on butterz with more to come.
well the gremlinz are back again on planet mu with this punchy 8 track double e.p. of experimental grime that showcases a breadth of new music, that swallows rnb and dubstep into terrors self made matrix.

optimum is malcolm chen, a new producer from south east london. he has collaborated with ikonika recently but planet mu are very happy to be releasing his first solo 12 inch.
the lead track >max power< lives up to its name, mixing tight electro-soca drums with a barrage of ravey riffs that build up with strange transporting noises, creating an almost unbearable, driving intensity without ever having to reach for the wobbly bass or other cliches.

hailing from ireland, wicklow and dublin to be precise, solar bears are john kowalski and rian trench, the sole producers and musicians on the album >she was coloured in<. they met and formed at pulse sound engineering school, started recording and were swiftly picked up by planet mu. the album follows in the wake of expectation laid down by their recent >inner sunshine ep< and a series of remixes.

dj roc, known to his mother as clarence johnson, was born and raised on the southside of chicago better known as the low end. the crack in >crack capone< refers to his style of production. like an underground chemist, dj roc produces variant strains of chicago juke music, the crack referring to the synapse snapping, potentially ankle cracking manipulation of rhythms and the sampling, hijacking and ultra-rhythmic micro-editing of black american pops dominant forms into a style thats been developed and tested on the streets of chicago.
